Senior Underwriter, Excess & Surplus (P&C)

Location: Remote within the lower 48 U.S. states; the role is associated with Scottsdale, Arizona, and requires travel to agency offices several times a year as needed.

Salary: $84,000–$126,000 expected starting annual salary range; national range $84,000–$156,000.

What you will do

• Review, accept, decline, quote, price, and underwrite complex new and renewal risks, endorsements, and service-sensitive accounts.
• Analyze loss exposures, claims activity, loss history, agency portfolios, pricing, profitability, and production results.
• Determine coverage terms, endorsements, exclusions, and appropriate treaty or facultative reinsurance placement.
• Manage relationships with general agents, program managers, and reinsurers while supporting marketing and business development initiatives.
• Handle policy maintenance, loss-control reviews, corrective action plans, and account-level recommendations.
• Support product, form, rate, and manual development and mentor Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants.

Requirements

• Six years of related experience or five years of underwriting experience; excess and surplus lines experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting practices, insurance law, rating plans, commercial insurance, regulatory issues, and agency distribution systems.
• Knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance concepts and the ability to analyze risks, policy language, and pricing methodologies.
• Advanced negotiation, communication, decision-making, and independent judgment skills.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered. Insurance designations such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI are preferred.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorization; hirify.global does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

• Excess and surplus lines underwriting experience.
• Completion of relevant general insurance courses or professional designations.
