Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack — QuickBooks Capital & Lending (AI)

Base pay: $202,500–$274,000 per year, with potential bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive significant technical initiatives across API, data, backend, and frontend layers.
• Architect and build scalable, secure, cloud-native applications and services.
• Remain hands-on with approximately 70% of time spent coding while setting technical direction.
• Lead complex feature design, mentor engineers, and guide a small team through challenging programming and architecture problems.
• Apply AI to products and engineering workflows, take AI-powered features to production, and measure their impact.
• Champion automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance, security, accessibility, internationalization, and full-lifecycle quality.

Requirements

• 8+ years designing and developing online SaaS applications with full-stack expertise.
• Strong Java and/or Kotlin backend experience with Spring Boot or comparable frameworks.
• Strong JavaScript, TypeScript, and React frontend experience.
• 5+ years building and consuming web APIs, including REST and ideally gRPC and/or GraphQL.
• Experience with software architecture, the full development lifecycle, automated testing, TDD, CI/CD, and Agile/Scrum.
• Strong technical leadership and communication skills, including design reviews, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• AWS cloud-native development with microservices, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Kafka, Elasticsearch, and SQL/NoSQL database design experience.
• Hands-on AI or GenAI experience, including LLM prompting, retrieval, model integration, and production monitoring.
• Production observability and instrumentation experience with metrics, logging, and tracing.
• Experience building and growing strong engineering teams.
