Senior Software Engineer

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; hybrid Flex Work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Annual base salary: $190,100–$285,100 USD for Pleasanton; $160,100–$285,100 USD for additional US locations

What you will do

• Design and architect decoupled, horizontally scalable, low-latency, high-throughput services and microservices.
• Write production-grade code and refactor legacy components for improved efficiency.
• Use profiling, tracing, and APM tools to identify memory, CPU, database, and I/O bottlenecks.
• Optimize data flows through database schemas and queries, indexing, serialization, and multi-tier caching.
• Partner with cloud infrastructure teams to align software designs with AWS compute, memory, and networking capabilities.
• Drive code reviews, mentor engineers, and establish automated benchmarking and load-testing workflows in CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience with Python, Go, Java, or C++.
• 4+ years of experience designing and evolving scalable distributed microservices architectures.
• Experience diagnosing performance issues involving memory leaks, CPU bottlenecks, database performance, and I/O serialization.
• Hands-on experience with profiling, tracing, and APM tools such as Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, pprof, or CloudWatch.
• Strong database optimization skills, including SQL/NoSQL queries, indexing, and caching with technologies such as Redis or Memcached.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP infrastructure, micro-benchmarking, load testing, stress testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of asynchronous programming, multithreading, memory management, and distributed systems.
• Experience leading design reviews, improving code quality, and mentoring engineers.
