Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 per year, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design and build highly scalable backend microservices with Java and Spring Boot.
• Architect real-time event-driven systems using Apache Kafka.
• Develop and optimize large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines with Apache Spark.
• Make architecture decisions covering scalability, resiliency, observability, and cost efficiency.
• Lead system design reviews, define distributed-systems best practices, and mentor engineers across multiple teams.
• Improve performance and reliability through partitioning, caching, asynchronous processing, concurrency tuning, and production incident reviews.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of software engineering experience with a relevant bachelor’s degree, or 6 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with cloud-native architecture, microservices, containers, and automation.
• Strong software development lifecycle experience, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in platform engineering, infrastructure tooling, and AI/ML integration using JavaScript, Python, Java, or C++.
• Ability to conduct system design reviews, apply software design patterns, debug systems, and make data-driven engineering decisions.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, and influence on architectural decisions.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
