Principal Browser Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom. Hybrid working arrangement with a minimum requirement to work onsite three days per week.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain core features of secure browsing products.
• Design, implement, debug, test, and optimize software using modern C++.
• Develop secure browser capabilities for Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
• Enhance Firefox-based functionality using JavaScript, TypeScript, and Gecko technologies.
• Build browser extensions, web-based functionality, and Python-based automation and validation frameworks.
• Investigate software defects, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities while contributing to architecture discussions, code reviews, and enterprise security solutions.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience developing software with modern C++.
• Experience with Windows software development, browser-based applications, browser extensions, or web technologies.
• Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript and knowledge of Chromium and/or Firefox architectures and codebases.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, debugging, testing, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Git or comparable source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience, together with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with cybersecurity, endpoint security, or secure browsing technologies.
• Python development for automation and test tooling.
• Firefox Gecko internals or Chromium browser internals.
• Cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
• PowerShell, Bash, technical leadership, mentoring, or architecture design experience.
