Strike Engineer (Nuclear Engineering)

Location: Santa Clara, California, or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to the Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and must work onsite there for the first two weeks of onboarding. Applicants must meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable export-control laws.

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Embed in high-priority engineering programs and rapidly understand systems, constraints, stakeholders, and failure modes.
• Define ambiguous technical problems from first principles and reduce uncertainty through analysis, experiments, testing, and operating data.
• Work hands-on across design, modeling, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, software, data, systems integration, and field execution.
• Create execution plans with owners, milestones, risks, decision points, and objective completion criteria, then drive verified closure.
• Lead cross-functional projects or teams temporarily, remove blockers, communicate decisions, and manage technical risks.
• Recruit and onboard permanent owners and transfer stable work with documentation, decisions, risks, and next steps.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience solving complex engineering problems from definition through design, execution, validation, and handoff.
• Broad technical knowledge across multiple engineering domains and deep expertise in at least one area such as mechanical, electrical, controls, software, systems, manufacturing, testing, thermal-fluid, structural, or nuclear engineering.
• Ability to use relevant modeling, CAD, calculation, test, scripting, data-analysis, and prototyping tools.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical work without formal authority, including temporary management responsibilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including technical plans, decision records, risk summaries, and executive updates.

Nice to have

• Experience in nuclear engineering, advanced reactor development, commercial power generation, national laboratories, or safety-critical energy environments.
• Experience delivering hardware or integrated systems in regulated, high-consequence, or quality-controlled environments.
• Experience recovering stalled projects, starting new programs, or resolving persistent technical and operational problems.
• Experience with hardware-software integration, automation, controls, data systems, test infrastructure, hiring, or engineering onboarding.
