Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, onsite four days per week, or remote anywhere in the United States. Remote candidates must be located in the United States.

Salary: $175,000–$245,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop large-scale progressive and single-page web applications that streamline radiology workflows.
• Build Python and FastAPI backend services, REST APIs, and machine learning pipeline services.
• Deliver features for a rapidly growing customer base and maintain reliable third-party integrations.
• Write secure, maintainable, high-performance code for a large-scale HIPAA-compliant environment.
• Collaborate with Product Management, ML, Data Science, Customer Success, and internal and external stakeholders.
• Improve product quality, security, and performance while mentoring engineers through reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in single- and multi-tenant environments.
• In-depth knowledge of Python and FastAPI or equivalent modern languages and frameworks.
• Experience with relational and document databases, large-scale data storage, modern web architecture, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Experience diagnosing and preventing performance and optimization issues at scale, with strong Git and distributed-team experience.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools while maintaining code quality, reliability, and security.
• For remote work, candidates must be located in the United States; the San Francisco option requires onsite work four days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with PostgreSQL and third-party integrations such as Auth0 and Amplitude.
• Experience at an early-stage startup.
• Experience in HIPAA-compliant environments, especially with FHIR and HL7.
• Experience working on machine learning systems.
