Director, Capital Markets Accounting

Location: Toronto, Canada; work arrangement includes an on-site and remote work proportion to be discussed during the interview.

What you will do

• Lead accounting support and financial control activities for multiple Capital Markets businesses.
• Oversee financial reporting, balance sheet substantiation, account attestation, valuation, and profit-and-loss results.
• Maintain effective accounting processes, control documentation, process maps, task manuals, and regulatory compliance practices.
• Partner with Accounting Policy, Reporting, Valuation, Product Control, CFO groups, Front Office, Technology, and Operations to resolve complex issues.
• Drive continuous improvement, systems enhancements, process transformation, and decision-support initiatives.
• Lead and develop a large team of finance professionals while managing priorities across complex projects and processes.

Requirements

• Strong Capital Markets accounting experience covering financial instruments such as fixed income, derivatives, repo/reverse repos, and loans.
• Knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements for financial instruments.
• Experience overseeing accounting functions and designing or assessing the operating effectiveness of financial controls, including SOX and internal controls.
• Experience with alternative investments, including direct private equity or direct fund investments.
• Current CPA accreditation in good standing or CFA charter-holder status with relevant experience.
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada and, where applicable, a valid work or study permit.
