Operator Technician (Refining)

Location: Mandan, North Dakota, United States. Onsite work at the Mandan Refinery on rotating 12-hour shifts, four days on and four days off. Overtime is required based on business needs.

Salary: $39.44–$45.73 per hour, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Learn refinery process operations and qualify on process and tank farm jobs.
• Monitor operating units and tank levels, perform rounds and tank gauging, and manage product transfers.
• Isolate equipment, collect process and tank samples, and write work permits.
• Detect and respond to process upsets and emergencies, including firefighting, evacuation, and emergency isolation activities.
• Handle, contain, and dispose of operational waste in accordance with environmental regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain assigned work areas and complete required operational documentation and reporting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years of age and possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Basic math, reading, writing, computer, and verbal skills.
• Ability to learn complex refinery-related material and perform the essential physical functions of the role, including lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Willingness to perform fire and emergency response activities and work rotating shifts and overtime.
• Adherence to a strict drug and alcohol policy; successful completion of a written test, hands-on demonstration, screening, background check, and physical assessment is required.

Nice to have

• Previous operator or petrochemical plant experience.
• Two years of vocational technical training in petrochemical, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Two years of equivalent process operations or maintenance craft experience.
• Five years of stable experience in light industrial or commercial work.
