Linux Kernel Software Engineer - Systems Engineering (Linux Kernel)

Location: Onsite at the Santa Clara, California office

Annual base salary: $167,000–$246,000 USD, with potential eligibility for incentive pay and/or equity.

What you will do

• Develop new Linux kernel features supporting enterprise storage products.
• Maintain and patch existing kernel code, including resolving difficult customer issues.
• Optimize kernel performance within storage arrays to meet customer requirements.
• Diagnose hardware-software boundary issues with cross-functional teams, partners, and vendors.
• Lead software architecture and development from concept through release, ensuring resilient and high-performance outcomes.
• Participate in code reviews, define requirements for storage server projects, and mentor peers.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience developing Linux kernels and device drivers, with experience shipping high-performance and resilient products.
• Strong knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems, networking, algorithms, and data structures.
• Advanced problem-solving, debugging, design, and validation skills.
• Experience optimizing performance across CPU instruction sets, NUMA, interrupt handling, and threading.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in writing and verbally.
• Ability and expectation to work from the Santa Clara office in accordance with company policy.

Nice to have

• Experience upstreaming Linux kernel code.
• Knowledge of storage system concepts and protocols, especially NVMe and PCIe.
• Experience working with hardware vendors to resolve difficult technical problems.
