Principal Engineer, System Diagnostics (Network Switch Hardware)

What you will do

• Design and implement low-level diagnostic software, test suites, and APIs for network switch hardware.
• Develop test plans for ASICs, high-speed SerDes, DDR/HBM memory, PCIe, power management, and thermal control systems.
• Support board bring-up, debug prototype hardware, and isolate hardware versus software root causes.
• Build diagnostic coverage for factory manufacturing lines and production-readiness validation.
• Create automated testing frameworks and scripts to collect metrics and analyze failure data.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering, ASIC Design, Embedded Firmware, and Network OS teams; mentor junior engineers and drive risk mitigation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 10–15 years of experience, or a related master's degree with 5–10 years of experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded or low-level software and Python or Bash for automation.
• Understanding of switch architecture, signal integrity, SerDes, I2C/SPI/MDIO, PCIe, and peripheral management.
• Experience with Linux development, drivers, kernel concepts, memory mapping, and lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, Layer 2/3 switching, optical transceivers, U-Boot, and ONIE.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated test infrastructure, rack-scale management systems, and ODM/JDM or contract manufacturing partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with networking ASICs or switch silicon from Broadcom, hirify.global, or Intel Barefoot.
• Exposure to BMC, OpenBMC, PDU, IPMI, or Redfish.
