DER Planning Engineer (Distributed Energy Resources)

Location: Hadley, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule. Travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire may be required.

Annual salary: $100,490–$111,660, plus potential incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Develop distribution system power flow models in Synergi and PSCAD for generation and energy storage interconnections.
• Conduct DER technical reviews, feasibility assessments, impact analyses, and studies covering load flow, voltage, short circuit, stability, flicker, transients, power factor, reliability, and losses.
• Review distribution interconnection requests, prepare Pre-Application Reports, and support ISO-NE interconnection documentation.
• Design mitigation measures and alternative engineering solutions for identified system violations and DER integration challenges.
• Coordinate with planning, transmission, distribution engineering, asset management, permitting, environmental, siting, operations, customers, and external stakeholders.
• Own project schedules, provide deliverable updates, present authorization documents, support customer discussions, and participate in emergency storm response.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field.
• At least 3 years of professional power systems experience; electric utility experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of distributed generation, energy storage, power delivery systems, reliability, power flow, voltage regulation, short circuit analysis, stability, transients, and industry standards.
• Experience with power system modeling and simulation software for steady-state, voltage, short circuit, stability, and electromagnetic transient analysis.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and collaboration skills; EIT certification or a PE license is preferred.
• Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants requiring sponsorship to start employment will not be considered. A valid driver’s license and availability for emergency restoration assignments and travel are required.
