Director Generation Electrical Engineering (Power and Energy)

Location: Houston, TX; remote considered within the US, with regular site and vendor travel.

Salary: $190,000–$300,000 USD base, plus potential bonus, equity, and/or commission.

What you will do

• Own the electrical design basis for generation facilities, including one-line diagrams, system architecture, voltage selection, redundancy, and expansion provisions.
• Direct load flow, short-circuit, motor-starting, harmonics, insulation-coordination, grounding, and arc-flash studies using ETAP, SKM, or equivalent platforms.
• Specify and review generators, generator breakers, transformers, medium- and high-voltage switchgear, BESS integration, cable systems, DC systems, and UPS systems.
• Lead electrical safety, hazardous-area design, constructability, grounding, lightning protection, and multidisciplinary interface coordination.
• Carry electrical scopes through design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction, energization, commissioning, and operational troubleshooting.
• Build and lead a small electrical engineering team while directing consultants, EPC partners, specialist firms, and equipment OEMs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in power generation, heavy industrial, or mission-critical facilities, including significant lead or owner's-engineer experience.
• Deep expertise in medium- and high-voltage systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, cable systems, grounding, and auxiliary power.
• Hands-on experience specifying and integrating reciprocating or turbine generator packages and BESS electrical scopes.
• Working fluency with power system studies and models, plus knowledge of NEC, NESC, and relevant IEEE and IEC standards.
• Experience taking electrical scopes through factory testing, construction, and energization, with the ability to work in the field when systems require troubleshooting.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; willingness to travel regularly to project sites and vendor facilities, typically 25%.

Nice to have

• Experience with islanded, behind-the-meter, or high-inverter-penetration systems.
