Expert Protection Engineer (500kV RAS)

Location: Hybrid in San Ramon, California, with remote work and an average of two days per week in the San Ramon office or as business needs require

Salary: $147,000–$251,000 annually, with a Bay Area midpoint of $199,000; eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Oversee system and substation protection, control systems, and remedial action schemes owned by PG&E.
• Specify, design, and apply protective relay packages for 500kV transmission and distribution systems.
• Develop testing procedures and perform fault, disturbance, and system modeling analysis.
• Maintain technical documentation and audit protection equipment.
• Provide second-tier support, act as a subject matter expert, and oversee less senior engineers.
• Coordinate information exchange with other utilities and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 9 years of experience in system protection.
• Ability to independently complete broad, complex assignments and integrate information from multiple sources.
• Experience designing complete systems and solving highly complex engineering problems.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer license.
• Membership in IEEE.
