Senior Software Engineer (Networking, Python, C/C++)

Location: Hybrid in Sunnyvale, California, with an average of two days per week in an HPE office

Base salary: USD 136,500–276,500 annual salary in California; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Develop, innovate, and maintain control-plane software for Layer 2 switching and overlay technologies.
• Perform requirements analysis, design, implementation, unit testing, and maintenance of software modules.
• Design and execute unit and integration tests, including automated testing with Python and Robot Framework.
• Improve feature performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with architects, product development, business unit teams, and geographically distributed cross-functional teams.
• Troubleshoot customer-reported issues, perform root-cause analysis, and contribute to technical standards, white papers, and patents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
• 8+ years of relevant Layer 2 or Layer 3 networking experience.
• Expertise in C/C++, data structures, debugging, operating system fundamentals, and software architecture.
• Familiarity with Python and Robot Framework for test automation.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and collaboration skills.
• Experience with Layer 2 technologies and networking protocols such as VLAN bridging, VPLS, EVPN, VXLAN, MPLS, LLDP, LACP, STP, TCP, IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, and BGP.
