Senior Software Engineer (Embedded C++/Autonomous Aircraft)

Location: On-site in Torrance, California, United States. Travel to integration and flight-test sites may be required up to 10%.

Salary: $132,000–$183,000 annually, plus equity and possible bonuses.

What you will do

• Design, implement, review, and maintain embedded C and C++ software for microcontrollers, application processors, and edge-compute platforms.
• Own software features from requirements and architecture through integration, verification, release, and ground or flight testing.
• Integrate cameras, electro-optical and infrared payloads, IMUs, GNSS receivers, radar, lidar, and other sensors.
• Develop perception capabilities including detection, tracking, localization, visual odometry, mapping, calibration, and multi-sensor fusion.
• Optimize CPU, GPU, memory, I/O, latency, throughput, startup time, and power consumption while preserving deterministic behavior.
• Build automated tests, digital twins, simulators, and diagnostic tooling; provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, reviews, mentoring, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, aerospace engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Seven or more years of professional software development experience, including embedded software for aircraft, autonomous vehicles, automotive systems, robotics, or similarly complex platforms.
• Advanced proficiency in embedded C and modern C++, with experience in concurrency, memory layout, performance optimization, and debugging.
• Production experience with microcontrollers and application processors, RTOS, embedded Linux, multithreading, interprocess communication, scheduling, boot flows, and device interfaces.
• Experience with vehicle and board interfaces including CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, and MAVLink, plus real sensor or perception data on resource-constrained platforms.
• Must meet on-site, work-authorization, export-control, and program-access requirements. ITAR/EAR-restricted work requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and no need for sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with UAV, UAS, autopilot, PX4, flight-control, perception, sensor-fusion, visual-inertial odometry, SLAM, or GNSS-denied navigation systems.
• Experience with OpenCV, Eigen, CUDA, TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, NXP, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Yocto, Buildroot, Qt, QML, Docker, Python, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with safety-related development practices, requirements-based testing, secure boot, signed updates, platform hardening, or embedded cybersecurity.
