Estimator - Transportation

What you will do

• Prepare accurate estimates, quotations, pricing schedules, bids, and tenders for rail civils projects and frameworks.
• Complete quantity take-offs from tender information and drawings using traditional methods or estimating software.
• Obtain, analyse, and normalise quotations from subcontractors, suppliers, merchants, and plant providers.
• Price labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, preliminaries, overheads, and project-specific requirements while identifying risks, exclusions, assumptions, and cost exposure.
• Lead larger tender teams, coordinate with planners, bid managers, delivery teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, and support methodologies and value engineering.
• Prepare adjudication and site handover packs, present estimate assumptions, close out actions, and support operational teams after contract award.

Requirements

• Engineering or commercial background, with relevant higher education or a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Experience estimating for civil engineering, groundworks, infrastructure, rail, highways, energy, or utilities projects; experience ranging from 3–5 years is specified, with at least 10 years of rail experience also referenced.
• Experience preparing tenders from sub-£250k packages to multi-million-pound projects and frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, labour, materials, plant, subcontractor pricing, tender processes, contract documentation, and project specifications.
• At least 3 years of experience with the NEC suite of contracts, plus strong Microsoft Excel and estimating or construction software skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend site visits and travel extensively are required.
