Overnight Live Broadcasting Supervising Editor (Broadcast Journalism)

Location: On-site in Washington, DC, United States. Overnight schedule: approximately 11:30pm–8:30am Eastern Time, Sunday–Thursday; holiday work and temporary schedule changes may be required.

Salary: $145,000–$155,000 per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the production team delivering the live Morning Edition broadcast and Up First podcast.
• Manage the editorial operation of the control room during live broadcasts, including breaking news coverage.
• Assign stories and segments, coordinate live updates, and collaborate with hosts, guests, reporters, and newsroom teams.
• Line-edit scripts and prepare live and recorded interviews while maintaining hirify.global editorial standards.
• Provide feedback, evaluate and develop direct reports, manage schedules, and participate in hiring.
• Collaborate with multiplatform teams to extend the reach of broadcast, podcast, digital, and social content.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience managing direct reports in a newsroom or operations environment.
• At least 5 years of experience writing and editing broadcast journalism content.
• At least 5 years of experience producing daily news journalism for a national or international news organization.
• Expertise in news writing, AP style, editing, project management, deadline management, and varied editorial formats.
• Strong people-management, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with audio production, mixing, and live control rooms.
• Experience as lead producer or editor for a radio or podcast show.
• Experience editing news for multiple platforms.
• Familiarity with a written language other than English, such as Spanish or Mandarin.
