Salary: $70,000–$80,000 annually; proposed minimum salary of $5,833.34 monthly.

hirify.global’s Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas conducts research and develops data-driven tools and evidence-based solutions to strengthen communities against natural hazards.

What you will do

  • Develop and update FEMA-compliant hazard mitigation plans, resilience assessments, technical reports, white papers, and related deliverables.
  • Conduct hazard identification, vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, climate and flood risk assessments, and resilience research.
  • Facilitate planning committee meetings, workshops, public engagement activities, stakeholder reviews, plan adoption, and FEMA approval.
  • Coordinate with local governments, emergency managers, councils of governments, nonprofit organizations, and state and federal agencies.
  • Apply AI, machine learning, large language models, GIS, geospatial datasets, and advanced analytical tools to planning, research, writing, and project management.
  • Support proposal development, sponsor reporting, grant deliverables, training, and the growth of the hazard mitigation planning portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, emergency management, geography, public administration, environmental science, engineering, natural resources, or a related field.
  • Eight years of related experience in hazard mitigation planning, resilience planning, emergency management, climate adaptation, or a related field.
  • Experience with technical writing, editing, presentation, facilitation, and collaboration with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to use GIS, geospatial analysis, technical production software, and advanced analytical methods such as Python, R, machine learning, large language models, or natural language processing.
  • Work may require evenings, weekends, and travel.
  • The position is grant- and contract-funded and remains contingent on continuation of funding and satisfactory performance.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • CFM, AICP, CEM, or another relevant professional certification.
  • Three years of experience as a lead author, primary contributor, project manager, or technical lead for FEMA-compliant hazard mitigation plans.
  • Three years of experience with FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance, HMGP, FMA, BRIC, or similar programs.
