Principal Controls Engineer (Automation)

Location: 100% on-site at the Durham, NC office

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership to the Operational Technology Automation team.
• Lead and participate in automation projects involving upgrades and new implementations.
• Design, support, troubleshoot, and maintain distributed control, manufacturing and packaging automation, and environmental monitoring systems.
• Maintain PLCs, HMIs, field devices, networks, databases, and control code under strict change control.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, IT, and validation teams on system configuration, network architecture, software requirements, graphics, programming, and sequences of operation.
• Review specifications, programming standards, and implementation plans while ensuring GAMP/cGxP procedures and testing are followed.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED with 14+ years of relevant automation experience; an associate degree with 12+ years; or a bachelor’s degree in information technology or engineering with 10+ years.
• Experience with PLC programming and connectivity, industrial networking, Schneider EcoStruxure, AVEVA (Wonderware) Archestra, Delta V, and Elpro environmental monitoring.
• Experience in an FDA-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and on construction projects.
• Strong database maintenance and development experience, plus computer hardware/software validation and change control experience.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize effectively, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in small, fast-paced project teams.
• Must work fully on-site at the Durham, North Carolina office.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of supervisory experience.
• Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI.
