Senior Automation and Controls Engineer (Medtech)

Location: Orange County, California; based at the Cypress, California manufacturing site

What you will do

• Design, program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC-based control systems for manufacturing and packaging processes.
• Integrate and commission industrial automation equipment, including control logic, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Configure industrial communication protocols and support network architecture, including LAN/WAN, VLANs, firewalls, switches, and routers.
• Develop HMI screens and SCADA features for data acquisition, alarms, trends, reporting, and real-time control.
• Integrate SCADA with MES and ERP systems, perform upgrades and patch management, and optimize automation network performance.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, IT, and production teams while maintaining schematics, network diagrams, software backups, and maintenance strategies.

Requirements

• Onsite work at the Cypress, California manufacturing site in Orange County is required.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, industrial, automation, or computer engineering.
• Knowledge of control systems, digital and analog electronics, robotics, automation, instrumentation, and sensors.
• Programming experience with C/C++, Python, and ladder logic.
• Knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and OPC UA.
• Ability to implement cybersecurity practices and comply with safety and regulatory standards including OSHA and NFPA 70E.

Nice to have

• Certified Automation Professional certification from ISA.
• PLC programming certifications from Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or similar vendors.
• CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA certification.
• Vendor-specific SCADA or HMI training in Wonderware, Ignition, or FactoryTalk.
