Cable Technician (Fiber Optics)

Location: Onsite in Austin, Texas, USA; must live within a one-hour drive of the assigned campus.

Compensation: USD 25–27 per hour.

What you will do

• Install, adjust, terminate, test, certify, and troubleshoot copper and fiber layer-one network connections.
• Work with Cat 5e/6/6a copper, single-mode and multi-mode fiber, LC, SC, ST, APC, and MPO/MTP interfaces.
• Perform fusion and mechanical splicing and use OTDR, OLTS, fiber inspection scopes, and Fluke DSX or equivalent testers.
• Interpret floor plans and as-built documentation, document field deviations, and propose practical pathway corrections.
• Own ticket-driven scopes from material checks through execution and closeout documentation, including SOP maintenance.
• Guide Tech I personnel and support rack work, hardware replacements, hotfixes, scheduled changes, and 24x7 fab and data center operations.

Requirements

• 3+ years of structured cabling experience, including hands-on copper and fiber work.
• 2+ years of construction-environment experience with knowledge of low-voltage standards and safety practices.
• High school diploma or equivalent, OSHA 10 certification, valid driver's license, and reliable transportation.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write clearly in English.
• Must live within a one-hour drive of the assigned campus and pass a criminal background check.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, work on ladders up to 40 feet, enter confined spaces, wear cleanroom PPE, and work Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with flexible, weekend, and on-call coverage as needed.

Nice to have

• Associate's degree in a related technical field.
• Experience in semiconductor, cleanroom, data center, or other mission-critical environments.
• BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2, fusion splicing, or manufacturer-specific fiber certification.
• Experience mentoring junior technicians or leading small crews and OSHA 30 certification.
