Temporary Outside Plant Technician (Fiber Optic)

Location: Oakwood, Georgia, United States; full-time, temporary fixed-term position requiring on-site outdoor and field work.

Salary: $15–$46 per hour; average starting earnings of $39,390 per year.

What you will do

• Install, repair, rearrange, and maintain aerial, underground, buried, and building-based outside plant facilities.
• Operate compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic aerial lifts, ladders, trucks, trailers, and other heavy equipment.
• Pull, place, connect, splice, and test telephone, coaxial, metallic, and fiber optic cables.
• Use cable locators, resistance and open fault locators, test sets, signal generators, and fiber optic test equipment to identify defects.
• Turn up, troubleshoot, and maintain digital carrier equipment, channel cards, light wave terminals, and metallic terminals.
• Work in all weather conditions, including on poles, ladders, trenches, tunnels, crawl spaces, buildings, and manholes while following safety procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to safely perform physically demanding duties, including lifting and moving loads up to 120 pounds.
• Ability to operate equipment according to manufacturer specifications and weight limitations.
• Ability to distinguish wire and cable colors and interpret work orders, diagrams, work prints, and company practices.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and enter poles, ladders, tunnels, trenches, crawl spaces, and manholes.
• Ability to perform cable splicing, testing, fault isolation, and maintenance of fiber optic and telecommunications systems.
• Must work on site in Oakwood, Georgia.
