TL;DR
Telecommunications Mechanic II (OSP) (Telecommunications Infrastructure): Maintaining and modernizing mission-critical voice, data, telephone switching, voicemail, and outside plant cable systems with an accent on fiber optic, copper, and coaxial infrastructure. Focus on troubleshooting outages, testing and repairing cable networks, maintaining technical documentation, and supporting DoD telecommunications upgrades.

Location: Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, USA; non-remote

Salary: $30.92 per hour

What you will do

  • Operate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot telephone switching equipment, voicemail platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Diagnose service outages, connectivity issues, and equipment failures while completing service requests and trouble tickets within service-level agreements.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair aerial, underground, and direct-buried fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable systems.
  • Maintain outside plant records, cable route documentation, telecommunications drawings, and as-built diagrams.
  • Inspect communications infrastructure and validate installation drawings and construction packages.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, modernization projects, technology refreshes, and coordination with government customers, contractors, and technical teams.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance are required; clearance sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
  • At least five years of experience in telecommunications infrastructure, voice systems, outside plant operations, or telecommunications installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cable installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Experience with aerial, underground, and direct-buried communications cable systems and telecommunications testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards, OSHA safety requirements, telecommunications practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, information technology, computer science, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting DoD, federal government, or military telecommunications environments.
  • Experience with telephone switching systems, voicemail platforms, infrastructure documentation, and modernization projects.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
