TL;DR
Power Electronics Applications Engineer (HVAC): Designing and validating next-generation electrical systems, power conversion units, and control solutions for industrial chillers and climate-control products with an accent on power electronics topologies, simulation, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance. Focus on modeling electromechanical systems, leading laboratory qualification testing, integrating suppliers, and translating advanced technologies into reliable sustainable products.

Location: La Crosse, Wisconsin, United States. Work onsite Monday through Thursday; choose the work location on Fridays according to work requirements.

Annual base salary: $84,740–$118,860.

What you will do

  • Lead power electronics projects, including planning, prioritization, milestone delivery, risk tracking, and quality improvements.
  • Design and develop DC-DC converters, AC-DC-AC power conversion units, and other advanced electrical systems for climate-control products.
  • Translate product duty cycles into system requirements and model thermal management, EMC/EMI compliance, motor control, and embedded control systems.
  • Perform model-based simulations of electromechanical machines, power electronics, and control systems using MATLAB Simulink, Simscape, PSIM, and PLECS.
  • Develop laboratory test plans, lead qualification testing, analyze test data, and prepare technical reliability, durability, and safety reports.
  • Collaborate with product, customer, supplier, procurement, and supply-chain teams on technical issues, supplier onboarding, engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience with electric systems simulation software, including MATLAB Simscape and PLECS, and the ability to compare and justify system architectures.
  • Understanding of embedded control systems, system communications, message databases, and module integration.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and technical presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage small-scale projects, prioritize work, track risks, and deliver to tight deadlines; proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Nice to have

  • Interest or experience in HVAC applications, industrial refrigeration operating conditions, or battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience developing engineering scripts for design verification tests.
  • Experience with patent filings or translating novel solutions into system and power-electronic module requirements.
