Insurance Counsel - Forms (Insurance)

Location: Remote, limited to candidates who can live and work full-time in one of the specified US states.

Salary: $130K–$150K annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own personal auto or property policy forms for new state launches, with backup responsibility for the other line of business.
• Research state statutes and regulations and translate requirements into clear, compliant policy language.
• Draft complete filing-ready packages, including base policies, endorsements, state amendatory endorsements, and required notices.
• Respond to Department of Insurance objections and represent Kin's position on form wording during audits and market conduct examinations.
• Advise Claims, Product, Customer Experience, Underwriting, Sales, and Customer Service on coverage interpretation and policy wording.
• Maintain reusable countrywide forms and state kits, develop drafting standards, train internal partners, and review AI-assisted drafts for legal accuracy.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree.
• 5+ years of policy form drafting experience, or a combination of drafting and coverage interpretation, claims litigation, or coverage counsel experience.
• Experience drafting personal lines policy forms across multiple states.
• Experience interpreting state insurance statutes and regulations and converting requirements into policy language.
• Experience responding to regulator objections and independently preparing complete forms packages from research through filing.
• Experience advising business stakeholders on coverage interpretation and policy wording.

Nice to have

• Experience with personal auto forms, including UM/UIM, PIP, selection and rejection forms, and state notices.
• Experience with property forms, including homeowners, condominium, manufactured home, flood, or surplus lines notices.
• Experience providing coverage opinions or applying policy language to claims scenarios.
