Senior Complex Claims Consultant / Claims Counsel

Location: Home United States; fully remote

Salary: $110,000–$135,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage and resolve high-severity, complex insurance claims, primarily involving Employment Practices Liability and Professional Liability, with additional BOP and General Liability exposure.
• Review policies, endorsements, statutes, and coverage issues involving employment-related allegations, professional negligence, bodily injury, and property damage.
• Draft coverage position letters, including reservations of rights and denials, and advise carriers on policy language and coverage forms.
• Lead investigations, evaluate liability and damages, develop resolution strategies, oversee litigation, and provide independent claim evaluations.
• Set and manage reserves, negotiate settlements within authority limits, and participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
• Maintain compliant claim documentation and advise internal teams, carriers, external counsel, policyholders, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor with active bar membership in good standing, or 7–10+ years of senior-level experience handling complex liability claims.
• Active adjuster licenses and willingness to obtain and maintain additional licenses as needed.
• Expertise in insurance coverage analysis, policy interpretation, coverage positions, reservations of rights, and denials.
• Strong understanding of liability, damages, litigation strategy, negotiation, and communication.
• Experience managing high-frequency EPL programs, panel counsel, and billing guidelines.
• Ability to manage multiple high-severity claims independently and use claims management systems.

Nice to have

• Experience in EPL, Professional Liability, mixed program business, BOP, or GL.
• Experience working with coverage counsel or in-house legal teams.
• Background in program business or specialty lines environments.
