Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid role requiring three days onsite in the Bethesda, Maryland office; U.S. law license required and hirify.global will not sponsor employment authorization.

Annual salary: $166,050–$260,350

What you will do

• Independently manage a high-volume portfolio of employment litigation matters, administrative charges, mediations, and pre-litigation disputes.
• Develop litigation strategies for discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, leave, accommodation, and related employment claims.
• Coordinate investigations, discovery, motion practice, mediation, trial preparation, settlement negotiations, and appeals.
• Lead outside counsel and litigation vendors, including strategy, budgets, staffing, and performance.
• Advise business leaders and People Group partners on employment law risks, investigations, performance management, accommodations, leave issues, and separations.
• Support policies, training, workflow improvements, legal technology, and cross-functional initiatives that reduce workplace litigation risk.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 8+ years of legal experience, including substantial employment litigation and administrative proceedings experience.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex employment litigation from inception through resolution with minimal supervision.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Experience advising business clients, directing outside counsel, and managing litigation strategy and budgets.
• Excellent analytical, written, verbal, problem-solving, interpersonal, and prioritization skills.

Nice to have

• In-house employment law or insurance industry experience.
• Experience with workplace investigations, large multi-state employers, or class, collective, and representative employment actions.
• Experience using legal technology, data analytics, AI-enabled tools, or workflow automation.
