Senior Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote in Canada

Builds software products for financial and payroll-related workflows.

What you will do

• Write clear, well-tested production code for web applications and backend services.
• Own major initiatives and complex technical tasks from definition through delivery.
• Translate cross-system challenges into execution plans and coordinate with external stakeholders when needed.
• Design abstractions, refactor complex systems, and provide technical solutions that improve engineering-wide delivery.
• Implement monitoring and alerts, support new initiatives after launch, and reduce alert noise.
• Facilitate technical planning and help engineers outside the immediate team develop their skills.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production web applications, including backend services with Python and Django.
• Experience with React and TypeScript; knowledge of data modelling and source-of-truth design across multiple services.
• Experience integrating third-party financial or payroll APIs, including webhooks, pagination, idempotency, retries, and synchronization.
• Hands-on experience with performance optimization and observability using Datadog metrics, traces, monitors, and Terraform-based monitors-as-code.
• Experience with feature flags, staged rollouts, analytics-driven release evaluation, and technical documentation.
• Degree in Computer Science or a related field; occasional on-call work outside standard hours is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, or Apollo.
• Payroll, tax, or fintech domain knowledge.
• Experience with Kafka, event-driven systems, or careful handling of personally identifiable information.
