Senior Manager, dbt Fusion

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately eight engineers working on the dbt Core product.
• Guide the roadmap for the Rust-based dbt V2 runtime, SQL language features, and new ELT primitives.
• Partner with Product and engineering stakeholders to define scope, sequencing, estimates, and tradeoffs.
• Lead technical design across the engine and its integrations with orchestration, IDE tooling, adapters, warehouses, and LakeCompute.
• Balance feature delivery with engine maintenance, modernization, documentation, reliability, and GA product stability.
• Coordinate cross-team initiatives and contribute directly to technical design and implementation.

Requirements

• Experience leading teams through multiple concurrent priorities and complex integration points.
• Strong software-engineering fundamentals with prior experience as a senior or staff engineer, technical lead, or equivalent hands-on technical leader.
• Ability to lead system design from problem definition through implementation and delivery.
• Experience translating ambiguous product requirements into engineering estimates, milestones, and tradeoffs.
• Judgment in balancing roadmap delivery, reliability, maintainability, technical debt, and product quality.
• Experience leading software through discovery, design, implementation, testing, release, operation, and iteration.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust or another systems programming language, compilers, query planning, language servers, IDE tooling, or developer platforms.
• Experience with data transformation, orchestration, warehouses, execution systems, or developer tools.
• Familiarity with Apache Arrow, Apache Iceberg, DuckDB, ADBC, SQL semantics, query optimization, transpilation, data lineage, or governance.
• Open-source contributions, experience with open standards, or startup and scale-up experience.
• Experience working in a remote-first or distributed organization with strong written communication practices.
