Construction Inspector (Heavy Civil Infrastructure)

Salary: $85,000–$150,000 per year ($41–$72 per hour)

What you will do

• Inspect installed civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical work for compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, codes, and quality requirements.
• Document daily construction activity, including labor, equipment, materials, quantities, weather, progress photographs, and inspection findings.
• Verify delivered materials, coordinate field and laboratory testing, and track deficiencies and corrective actions through closure.
• Identify nonconforming work, safety concerns, and design conflicts; verify corrections with contractors, utility owners, agency staff, and third parties.
• Measure pay quantities, verify survey layouts and as-built documentation, and monitor traffic control and work-zone safety.
• Support punch lists, testing and startup verification, and project closeout documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering technology, civil engineering, construction engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of construction inspection experience on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued at more than $500 million.
• Depth in at least one inspection discipline: civil and structural, mechanical and plumbing, or electrical construction.
• Working knowledge of construction methods, applicable codes and standards, materials testing, and acceptance practices.
• Experience preparing daily inspection reports, quantity records, nonconformance documentation, and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings.
• Experience with field reporting, document management, and Microsoft Office software.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour Construction, ICC, NICET III or IV, ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, or CWI.
• Experience as a lead inspector on projects exceeding $100 million or programs exceeding $1 billion.
• Experience covering multiple disciplines or inspecting transit, airport, water, or wastewater facilities that remain in service during construction.
• Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, SharePoint-based systems, Power BI, or Oracle Cloud Analytics.
