Construction Inspector (Highway Structures)

Location: Greater Los Angeles metro area, California, United States; long-term, full-time, on-site position with regular night and weekend shifts, including extended shifts during freeway closures.

Salary: $70,000–$72,000 per year ($33–$35 per hour).

What you will do

• Inspect roadway concrete structures, bridges, soundwalls, barriers, drainage structures, retaining walls, and sign structure foundations.
• Inspect CIDH pile construction from drilling and bottom cleaning through reinforcing cage and concrete placement, including integrity testing.
• Verify excavation, footings, reinforcing steel, formwork, drainage, backfill, materials acceptance, and concrete placement.
• Coordinate structure work with roadway excavation, embankment, paving, traffic control, and lane closure operations.
• Prepare accurate daily reports with quantities, labor, equipment, photographs, and field conditions.
• Identify and document nonconforming work, coordinate corrections, and maintain records for audits and project closeout.

Requirements

• 5+ years of highway construction inspection experience on large, complex highway transportation projects valued above $500 million.
• Experience with Caltrans projects and working knowledge of Caltrans Standard Specifications, Standard Plans, Construction Manual, and Foundation Manual.
• Hands-on experience inspecting CIDH piles and retaining wall construction.
• Ability to read roadway and structure plans, special provisions, shop drawings, and foundation reports.
• Valid authorization to operate motor vehicles under California law and ability to travel to project sites.
• Willingness to work regular night and weekend shifts, including extended freeway-closure shifts.

Nice to have

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector, or equivalent certification.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with CIDH integrity testing, MSE, soldier pile, or soil nail walls, and bridge widening structures.
