COBOL Software Developer

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with initial in-person training and up to 3 work-from-home days per week

What you will do

• Define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software programs and applications.
• Develop and support new and existing systems.
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and brainstorming sessions.
• Create program and system documentation.
• Analyze and resolve software errors accurately and promptly.
• Consult with users, architects, project leaders, and management to resolve problems and recommend alternatives.

Requirements

• Ability to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
• Ability to work in the Lansing, Michigan tech office; fully remote work is not available.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, Statistics, another logic-based field, or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Strong interest in learning software development; full training is provided and previous programming experience is not required.
• Ability to learn and use the tools and software development techniques adopted by the IT Division.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of COBOL, DB2, databases, or SQL.
• Exposure to R, SAS, Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Java, or JCL.
• Enthusiasm for improving systems by finding and implementing solutions to new challenges.
