FinOps Engineer, Cost Analytics & Platform (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, United States; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office for candidates within reasonable commuting distance.

Salary: $116,000–$145,000 per year, plus potential short-term and long-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Own Apptio Cloudability, including cost allocation, tagging structures, business mappings, folder configuration, and chargeback/showback readiness.
• Build executive-facing Looker Studio and Cloudability dashboards covering cloud cost, unit economics, commitment savings, and variance.
• Deliver recurring FinOps reporting and narratives for Finance, Technology leadership, CTO audiences, and quarterly business reviews.
• Analyze optimization opportunities across GCP, AWS, and Azure, including committed use discounts, savings plans, reserved instances, idle resources, and rate structures.
• Build cloud and AI/LLM spend forecasts and scenario models, query the BigQuery cost data lake with SQL, and define data requirements for the Data Platform engineer.
• Automate recurring reporting with SQL and scripting, partner with Finance on accruals and variance explanations, and coordinate with cloud, tooling, and AI platform vendors.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, cloud financial analysis, or a closely related field.
• Hands-on experience with a cloud cost management platform; independent Apptio Cloudability report building and configuration is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of cloud pricing and optimization across at least two of GCP, AWS, and Azure.
• SQL proficiency for direct analysis of BigQuery cost data, without relying only on finished dashboards.
• Strong financial modeling and Excel skills, including forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario modeling.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting cost analysis to senior leadership.

Nice to have

• FinOps Foundation certification at the FinOps Certified Practitioner level or higher.
• Experience forecasting AI/LLM platform spending, including usage-based pricing, token metrics, and consumption drivers.
• Python or comparable scripting experience for reporting automation.
• Experience with multi-cloud environments, large-scale commitment portfolios, SaaS or cloud-hosting unit economics, and chargeback maturity models.
