R&D PhD Summer Intern: Blades Front-End Innovation (Polymeric Blade Coatings)

Location: South Boston, Massachusetts, United States; work in the office 3 to 5 days per week

What you will do

• Determine relationships between material properties and product performance.
• Design and execute prototyping and characterization experiments for polymeric blade coatings.
• Perform hands-on polymer synthesis, characterization, and structure-property model building.
• Integrate information from internal and external sources within a multidisciplinary R&D team.
• Independently scope and execute a primarily self-directed 12-week research project.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
• Experience with polymer property characterization techniques.
• Ability to research and compile information, design controlled comparative experiments, and define quantitative endpoints.
• Strong scientific communication skills for synthesizing literature, documenting protocols, and presenting recommendations to technical audiences.
• Availability for a 12-week internship from May or early June through August 2027.
• Immigration sponsorship is not available for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience in surface analysis, microscopy, spectroscopy, polymeric structure-property relationships, and data analysis.
• Experience in polymer chemistry and polymer chemical analysis.
• Ability to apply digital tools to the analysis and optimization of polymer properties in formulations.
