AlpInvest Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: New York, NY, United States

Base salary: $190,000–$220,000 per year, plus potential annual discretionary incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Partner directly with investment professionals across Primaries, Secondaries, and Co-Investments to identify workflow challenges and technical opportunities.
• Build applications, services, APIs, data workflows, and AI-enabled tools for investment decision-making.
• Own solutions from problem discovery and prototyping through production deployment, adoption, and iteration.
• Develop systems for GP Scoring, including automated data ingestion, scoring workflows, model integration, and investor-facing experiences.
• Contribute to One-Day Pricing capabilities for LP interest transactions, including document extraction, entity resolution, investment assumptions, portfolio data, and pricing algorithms.
• Build AI-powered diligence, research, and investment intelligence workflows using LLMs, agents, retrieval systems, and modern application architectures.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant technical experience in software engineering, forward deployed engineering, applied AI/ML engineering, data-intensive product engineering, or related fields.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on programming skills in Python and experience deploying production-grade applications, services, APIs, data products, or AI-enabled systems.
• Experience translating ambiguous business problems into technical solutions and working directly with senior stakeholders.
• Experience integrating structured and unstructured data across multiple systems, with familiarity with cloud environments, data platforms, and production system design.
• Experience with generative AI, LLMs, agent-based systems, retrieval systems, or AI-assisted development is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience in private equity, asset management, investment management, alternative investments, financial services, or investment technology.
• Familiarity with investment performance metrics, portfolio analytics, fund structures, manager evaluation, or investment pricing.
• Experience with modern application or backend technologies beyond Python.
