Senior Principal Engineer, Developer Productivity (AI)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States of America; primarily office-based

Salary: $243,000–$335,000 per year, plus potential restricted stock units and bonus

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and productionize AI agents and workflows for requirements, coding, code review, testing, documentation, deployment, and operations.
• Integrate AI capabilities into developer platforms, repositories, IDEs, CI/CD pipelines, and operational tooling.
• Modernize complex business-critical systems through AI-assisted analysis, refactoring, migration, testing, and documentation.
• Build secure, observable, auditable, and reliable agentic workflows with safe rollback and human approval controls.
• Drive adoption through reusable engineering patterns, architecture reviews, mentoring, workshops, and technical demonstrations.
• Measure productivity, quality, security, reliability, and cost outcomes through controlled pilots and engineering metrics.

Requirements

• 15 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree, 12 years with a master’s degree, or 8 years with a PhD; equivalent technical impact may be considered.
• Senior Principal, Principal, or equivalent scope across multiple teams or engineering domains.
• Recent hands-on experience building and operating production systems.
• Practical experience with large language model APIs, tool-using agents, agent orchestration, context engineering, evaluation frameworks, and AI observability.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architectures, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, testing, observability, and production operations.
• Experience modernizing complex systems and influencing technical direction across organizations without direct authority.

Nice to have

• Experience introducing AI-assisted or agentic development workflows in a large or regulated enterprise.
• Experience with ERP, CRM, HRIS, CLM, finance, or customer-support platforms.
• Experience implementing AI security controls, permission boundaries, auditability, and prompt-injection defenses.
• Familiarity with DORA and SPACE frameworks, technical publications, open-source contributions, or conference presentations.
