TL;DR
Senior Transmission Planning Engineer (Reliability) (Power Systems): Developing transmission planning studies, load forecasts, equipment models, and grid modernization projects with an accent on reliability, power flow analysis, and regulatory compliance. Focus on leading complex transmission studies, modeling HVDC and non-standard equipment, guiding interconnection standards, and implementing FERC/NERC/WECC requirements.

Location: Hybrid in Dublin, California, working remotely and from an assigned location within the PG&E service territory based on business needs.

Salary: $153,828–$197,628 per year.

What you will do

  • Prepare transmission base cases and lead approval of the transmission load forecast.
  • Lead transmission system studies, including long-term planning, expansion assessments, reliability strategy, and complex RAS-related studies.
  • Develop generator, HVDC, and other non-standard equipment models for power flow and dynamic stability analysis.
  • Lead project implementation from development and testing through operational deployment, including large-scale projects requiring PTC or CPCN permits.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering, operations, asset strategy, and distribution planning teams.
  • Lead regulatory and reliability compliance activities, including FERC, NERC, WECC, and CAISO requirements and annual gap analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited US program or equivalent international education.
  • At least 8 years of experience in electric transmission planning studies.
  • Advanced knowledge of power system theory and transmission planning analysis.
  • Experience with transmission system operations and NERC/WECC standards.
  • Programming experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, or EPCL.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from a remote office and an assigned PG&E service-territory location.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of PG&E’s transmission system.
  • California PE license.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
