AS400 Computer Operator (IBM i)

Location: Remote from the United States, aligned to Eastern Time. Fixed overnight schedule: Wednesday–Friday 8:00 PM–6:00 AM ET and Saturday 6:00 PM–4:00 AM ET. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required.

Salary: $20–30/hour. Overtime over 40 hours per week is paid at time and a half.

What you will do

• Monitor core systems, application jobs, communications equipment, and auxiliary hardware throughout each shift.
• Perform system backups, report distribution, production job scheduling, tape library operations, and documentation.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and document processing problems caused by software or hardware malfunctions.
• Escalate job errors and incidents to programming teams, clients, management, and on-call operations staff.
• Process security requests according to client statements of work and follow defined escalation procedures.
• Work independently as the scheduled operator while contributing to operating standards and routine maintenance.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of hands-on IBM i (AS/400) operations experience.
• Experience working in an operations environment and understanding of operating-system principles, practices, and standards.
• Ability to identify problems, collect data, and resolve routine issues within established procedures.
• Strong oral and written communication, teamwork, facilitation, change-management, and multitasking skills.
• Availability for the fixed overnight schedule, including weekends and holidays, with occasional additional third-shift coverage.
• Reliable high-speed home internet and a phone are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Fortra ROBOT or other third-party scheduling software.
• Experience with IBM HMC, IBM Power Systems, hardware troubleshooting, and tape-library management.
• Experience with retail systems operations and store polling.
• Experience with Island Pacific or JDA MMS.
