TL;DR
Legal Counsel (Financial Services): Providing commercially focused legal advice across AJ Bell, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, and supporting customer terms and regulatory obligations with an accent on financial services regulation, Consumer Duty, and practical risk management. Focus on translating complex legal issues into actionable advice, partnering with Product and Technology Services, and improving legal support through legal technology.
Location: Manchester, United Kingdom; hybrid working with at least 50% of working time per month in the office and an initial period of full-time office working for new starters.

What you will do
- Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to stakeholders across the group.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including supplier contracts and standard terms of business.
- Work with Product, Risk and Compliance to develop and maintain customer terms and conditions.
- Research legal and technical issues and translate them into clear advice for non-lawyers.
- Support regulatory obligations, including Consumer Duty, and help teams manage legal and commercial risk.
- Partner with Product and Technology Services and explore legal technology to improve the efficiency of legal support.
Requirements
- Solicitor qualified in England and Wales.
- Ideally around 3 to 6 years of post-qualification experience in commercial, corporate or financial services regulatory work.
- Experience gained in a leading UK law firm or an in-house environment.
- Strong commercial judgement, drafting, analytical, communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and provide clear, actionable advice.
- Collaborative approach with curiosity about legal technology and developing legal expertise.
