TL;DR
Shipboard Safety Inspector (Occupational Safety, Senior Analyst) (Maritime Safety/OSHA): Conducting daily shipboard inspections and monitoring Alteration Installation Team compliance for a US Navy client with an accent on OSHA, NAVSEA, environmental, and quality requirements. Focus on evaluating hazardous field conditions, tracking corrective actions, and producing written safety surveillance while working in confined spaces and at height.
Location: Norfolk, Virginia, United States; on-site five days per week. Travel up to 15% may be required.
Salary: $80,000–$110,000 per year

What you will do
- Conduct daily shipboard safety inspections and provide immediate recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions.
- Monitor Alteration Installation Team compliance with quality, safety, environmental, technical, and QMS requirements.
- Verify compliance with OSHA standards, NAVSEA Standard Items, local shipyard rules, and ESOH requirements.
- Observe trades, provide real-time safety guidance, and support corrective action requests.
- Audit work sites, track deficiencies through correction, and advise management on findings.
- Prepare written daily safety surveillance reports for each visited job site.
Requirements
- Five years of US Navy shipboard experience required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively.
- Ability to lift items within NIOSH limits and stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights, in cramped areas, and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of maritime safety regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA, and local or state rules.
- OSHA 521, 3095, 3115, 7615, or 5410 training.
- Shipyard Competent Person Certification and shipboard AIT or inspection experience.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA TS9090-310, NAVSEA Standard Items, and the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual.
