Principal Controls Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Medical Devices)

Location: North Haven, Connecticut, United States; 5 days a week onsite

Salary: $123,200–$184,800 per year in U.S. locations excluding Puerto Rico and specific California locations.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership to engineers, suppliers, and system integrators delivering automation solutions that meet performance, safety, quality, and business requirements.
• Design, implement, and support control systems for manufacturing equipment, automated assembly systems, test equipment, and material handling systems.
• Integrate and optimize PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, machine vision, sensors, and industrial networks.
• Develop controls architectures, software, and technical requirements for new equipment, automation projects, and manufacturing improvements.
• Troubleshoot complex automation issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability, quality, uptime, and performance.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, and Operations on equipment development, qualification, new product introduction, and manufacturing scale-up.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, master’s degree with at least 5 years, or PhD with at least 3 years.
• Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs.
• Experience with Cognex In-Sight Spreadsheet, Cognex VisionPro, and Keyence vision technologies.
• Experience with automation, controls, manufacturing equipment, or related industrial systems.
• Ability to work onsite 5 days per week at the North Haven, Connecticut site.
• U.S. work authorization sponsorship is offered for Principal-level roles and above; a qualifying U.S. work authorization framework applies to the position.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, machine vision, motion control, automated manufacturing equipment, or regulated manufacturing.
• Experience with NPI, equipment qualification, validation, manufacturing scale-up, PFMEA, DFMEA, control plans, or hazard analyses.
• Experience leading controls projects, mentoring engineers, and working with suppliers, system integrators, or contract manufacturers.
