TL;DR
Staff Software Engineer (Embedded Systems): Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded software for medical devices across the full software lifecycle with an accent on regulated development, system integration, and software quality. Focus on debugging complex cross-component issues, working with microcontroller-based systems and RTOS, and providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Location: Hybrid in Acton, Massachusetts, United States

What you will do

  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain embedded software for new and existing medical products.
  • Own engineering work end to end, including implementation, debugging, documentation, verification, and defect resolution.
  • Analyze root causes and resolve complex software and system issues across components, disciplines, and product generations.
  • Ensure software development complies with company policies and applicable medical-device regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, requirements, and test artifacts.
  • Collaborate with software, quality, hardware, regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, and other cross-functional teams; provide technical guidance and mentorship when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C and/or C++ and hands-on embedded-systems experience.
  • Experience developing software for ARM, TI, MSP, or similar microcontroller-based systems.
  • Knowledge of I2C, SPI, Flash, EEPROM, and/or USB, plus communication systems or wireless protocols.
  • Understanding of operating-system concepts, threading, mutual exclusion, interrupts, deadlock avoidance, RTOS, and real-time systems.
  • Experience with regulated industries, electrical schematics, object-oriented design, shared codebases, and Agile or other SDLC practices.
