TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer (Aerospace): Developing production C and C++ embedded software for autonomous aircraft and uncrewed aerial systems with an accent on real-time systems, embedded Linux, sensor integration, and perception capabilities. Focus on designing software across microcontrollers and application processors, solving cross-domain vehicle problems, and validating systems through ground and flight testing.

Location: Torrance, California, USA. Work with prototype and production hardware in laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, and flight-test environments; travel to integration and flight-test sites may be required up to 10%.

Salary: $132,000–$183,000 per year, plus equity and possible bonuses.

Company

hirify.global develops aerospace and autonomous aircraft solutions through FlightWave Aerospace.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, review, and maintain embedded C and C++ software for microcontrollers, application processors, and aircraft edge-compute platforms.
  • Own features from requirements and architecture through implementation, integration, verification, release, and ground or flight-test support.
  • Develop board-support, device-interface, middleware, and application-layer software for RTOS and embedded Linux.
  • Integrate cameras, EO/IR payloads, IMUs, GNSS, radar, lidar, and other sensors with reliable data paths, synchronization, monitoring, and fault handling.
  • Develop or integrate perception capabilities including detection, tracking, localization, visual odometry, mapping, calibration, and sensor fusion.
  • Lead architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, multidisciplinary coordination, debugging, performance optimization, and automated test coverage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Seven or more years of professional software development experience, including recent embedded development for aircraft, VTOL/UAS, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or comparable platforms.
  • Advanced embedded C and modern C++ proficiency, with production experience on both microcontrollers and application processors.
  • Experience with RTOS, embedded Linux, scheduling, multithreading, IPC, boot flow, device interfaces, and system-level debugging.
  • Experience with vehicle and board interfaces including CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART, MavLink, BDShot, and GPIO.
  • For ITAR/EAR-controlled work, candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residence and must not require sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • VTOL, UAS, autopilot, flight-computer, flight-control, or PX4 experience.
  • Experience with aerial-vehicle perception, sensor fusion, visual-inertial odometry, SLAM, GNSS-denied navigation, object detection, or tracking.
  • Embedded computer vision or machine-learning optimization with OpenCV, Eigen, CUDA, TensorRT, or ONNX Runtime.
  • Experience with NXP, Qualcomm, or NVIDIA processors, Yocto, Buildroot, bootloaders, device drivers, Docker, cross-compilation, or Qt/QML.
  • Knowledge of aerospace safety standards, secure boot, signed updates, trusted execution, or embedded cybersecurity.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, controls, autonomy, test, manufacturing, and flight-operations teams.
  • Work across architecture, hardware bring-up, bench testing, vehicle integration, and flight testing.
  • Participate in scheduled test events or issue-response activities outside standard hours when necessary.
  • Employment includes a post-offer background check and E-Verify eligibility verification.
