Senior Principal Engineer (Team Leader)

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom; hybrid remote/office work.

What you will do

• Lead a team delivering primary engineering designs for UK transmission operator substations and renewable grid connections.
• Own the technical responsibility for primary substation design and approve engineering outputs within the department.
• Coordinate with clients, civil engineering teams, project managers, and other interfaces to meet delivery timescales and budgets.
• Ensure design risk assessments and HAZIDs are completed, with residual risks transferred to the health and safety file.
• Chair design reviews and ensure compliance with specifications, standards, and internal processes.
• Coach and develop engineers while contributing to technical meetings and project reporting.

Requirements

• Degree in electrical engineering.
• Extensive primary engineering design experience in the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
• At least five years of experience in the UK as a lead design engineer.
• Good knowledge of grid connection requirements, constraints, and technologies.
• Strong knowledge of technology, product roadmaps, and value engineering.
• Up-to-date knowledge of transmission and distribution standards, high-voltage substation technologies, health and safety standards, and CDM regulations.
