TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Wearables) (Precision Hardware): Developing and scaling assembly processes, production equipment, tooling, and automated test fixtures for advanced wearable computing hardware with an accent on equipment qualification, DFM, PFMEA, and manufacturing yield. Focus on solving production-line issues, improving process readiness, and coordinating contract manufacturers from NPI through mass production.

Location: Abingdon, United Kingdom; office attendance expected 4+ days per week

What you will do

  • Map manufacturing process flows, identify NUDDs, and lead or participate in PFMEAs for critical assembly processes.
  • Specify and manage production equipment and tooling from concept through commissioning with third-party suppliers.
  • Lead equipment qualification, including calibration, FAT/SAT/PAT, and Gage R&R studies across internal facilities and manufacturing partners.
  • Deploy custom equipment, precision tooling, and automated test fixtures to improve assembly workflows and production standards.
  • Drive DFM, yield improvement, line balancing, and root-cause troubleshooting with contract manufacturing partners from NPI through mass production.
  • Work directly on production lines and collaborate with Design, Quality, Optical, Mechanical, Supply Chain, technicians, and operators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in high-precision hardware, consumer electronics, optics, or wearables.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment setup, fixture debugging, prototype assembly, engineering drawings, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Gage R&R, PFMEA, SPC, or DOE, plus experience with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 15% depending on project phases.
  • Strong attention to detail, data-driven decision-making, adaptability, and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification or experience.
  • Knowledge of DFX, DFM, DFA, FMEA, and yield optimization.
  • Experience identifying manufacturing NUDDs.
  • CAD experience with NX or SolidWorks.
