Senior Technician (Civil and Mechanical Engineering)

What you will do

• Provide technical support across fluids, heavy structures, dynamics, impact and ballistics, geotechnical, and concrete processing laboratories.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate students with test-rig setup, measurement chains, experiments, and validation of results.
• Demonstrate and support practical classes and engineering design, manufacture, and testing projects.
• Train staff and students in equipment operation and servicing within the scope of technical competence.
• Maintain and develop facilities and equipment, resolve technical challenges, and improve technical services.
• Supervise, motivate, and develop junior staff and technical apprentices.

Requirements

• Qualification in a science or engineering-related subject, or significant relevant technical, engineering, or scientific experience.
• Experience with fabrication and testing methods used in civil and mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of engineering functionality, replicability, cost considerations, and their application to engineering projects.
• Extensive experience using workshop machine tools, including lathes, CNC milling, grinding, cutting, polishing, and drilling machines.
• Ability to train and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
• Right to work in the UK is required; Skilled Worker visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with furnace control systems, data loggers, fire engineering practice, strain gauging, and mechanical property testing.
• Experience with LabCup, PPMS, CAD/CAM, or SolidWorks.
• Higher education teaching or research operations experience.
• Line management or supervisory experience.
