Senior Linux Administrator (HPC)

Location: Cambridge, UK; hybrid

Salary: £60,000–£70,000 per year, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Own and administer the HPC cluster, including compute nodes, storage systems, networking, and resource utilisation.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and evolve Slurm queues, scheduling policies, and distributed compute environments.
• Maintain and improve core RHEL infrastructure, Synopsys EDA tooling, licence managers, and user support capabilities.
• Monitor performance and availability with observability tools such as Prometheus, investigating anomalies and outages.
• Automate routine administration with Bash, Python, Ansible, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Develop security hardening, lifecycle management, off-site backups, disaster recovery, documentation, and infrastructure improvements.

Requirements

• Extensive experience administering and growing infrastructure in fast-paced engineering environments.
• Deep expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration, security hardening, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Slurm or similar job schedulers, distributed compute environments, network storage, and network optimisation.
• Proficiency with container environments, virtualisation, Ansible, Python, Bash, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies.
• Strong communication skills for supporting technical and non-technical users.

Nice to have

• Experience managing licensed EDA or similar specialist software tooling, such as Synopsys.
