TL;DR
Software Engineering Degree Apprenticeship (Cyber Security) (C/C++/Cryptography): Developing cryptographic devices and key management systems for protecting sensitive national and commercial information with an accent on embedded software, Windows applications, and secure full-lifecycle development. Focus on real-time development in resource-constrained environments, requirements traceability, UML-based design, and Agile delivery against demanding security standards.

Location: hirify.global Defence & Space Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work in the United Kingdom for the full duration of the programme. The role is subject to BPSS screening and may require UK SC-level security clearance or Export Control approval.

Salary: £23,000 per year

What you will do

  • Develop software for cryptographic devices and cryptographic key management systems.
  • Learn to design, develop, integrate, and test software to hirify.global Defence & Space standards.
  • Build embedded real-time software in resource-constrained environments using C or C++.
  • Develop Windows application software and contribute across the full product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, FPGA, and verification engineers in an Agile environment.
  • Apply requirements elicitation, traceability, UML-based design, estimation, and architectural patterns.

Requirements

  • Minimum 104–112 UCAS points from three A levels at grade C or above, or equivalent BTEC/Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma at DMM, or T Level at Merit or above.
  • Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English Language or Welsh First Language and Mathematics or Mathematics–Numeracy.
  • Genuine interest in software development and strong motivation to learn.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • CV including grades and whether they are predicted or achieved, plus a cover letter explaining suitability and motivation.
  • Current UK work authorisation for the full programme duration is mandatory; the apprenticeship does not qualify for visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Experience from personal projects, academic work, hobbies, or extracurricular activities related to software development.
