Customs Compliance Officer (Defense Tech)

Location: Palm Bay, Florida or Greenville, Texas. Onsite role with a 9/80 schedule; travel of up to 10% may be required. Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance is required, and security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

What you will do

• Implement and manage customs trade compliance programs across assigned business units.
• Review and assign HTSUS and Schedule B classifications for imported and exported products.
• Coordinate import transactions as Importer of Record and ensure accurate declarations to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and participating government agencies.
• Coordinate ATA Carnet transactions and verify import data, Free Trade Agreement claims, PGA data, and trade authorizations.
• Conduct restricted party screening, resolve compliance red flags, and maintain organized and retrievable trade records.
• Train stakeholders and support audits, investigations, reporting, and corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant import/export compliance experience; or a graduate degree and 2 years of related experience; or 8 years of related experience without a degree.
• Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, participating government agencies, ITAR, EAR, FTR, Incoterms, and global logistics.
• Familiarity with HTSUS and Schedule B classifications.
• Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to travel up to 10%.
• Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Nice to have

• Experience with trade compliance management systems such as EASE or Visual Compliance.
• Experience with ATA Carnets, Free Trade Agreements, and Electronic Export Information filings.
• Licensed Customs Broker designation.
• Defense, aerospace, or government contracting experience.
• Strong organization and collaboration skills across multiple functions and business units.
